The treatments, simply called Skin Tightening Treatments (SkinTyte or ST) use a powerful light source, not a laser, to stimulate collagen and tighten skin over time.
(OPENPRESS) February 6, 2007 -- A breakthrough in non-surgical light therapy
is now being offered at Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, P.A., a cosmetic center in
Edina, Minnesota.
Skin Rejuvenation Clinic uses a Sciton Profile BBL (also referred to as IPL,
intense pulsed light, or photofacial) to administer the Skin Tightening Treatments
on areas such as the face (crows feet, around the eyes, around the mouth), neck
and under the chin, and arms. It can also provide nice improvement on loose
abdominal skin sometimes seen after pregnancy or rapid weight loss. The procedure
is not technically a laser treatment, but a light therapy treatment involving
an infrared light which penetrates the dermis, the deeper layers of the skin
where collagen production occurs. This technique selectively targets and treats
dermal collagen. The result is partial coagulation and contraction of collagen.
It also causes the collagen to remodel itself over a period of six weeks to
six months. A series of four to six treatments is recommended for maximum tightening.
Mark Hagberg, M.D., who owns and operates Skin Rejuvenation Clinic with his
wife, Elizabeth Hagberg M.D., said that although Skin Tightening Treatments
provide gradual results, some patients see an improvement in their skin's tone
and texture after the first treatment. "Besides the initial tightening, the
full impact will be seen over the next two to six months because new collagen
is still being produced," he explained. "Following each treatment, the skin
may be pink or slightly red with some temporary swelling and/or tenderness,
but no downtime is needed and any redness can easily be covered with light make-up."
Dr. Hagberg said the decision to bring Skin Tightening Treatments to his and
his wife's practice was not a difficult one. "We were quite familiar with skin
tightening treatments that have been on the market for several years, and recognized
that the tightening technology was being improved every year," he said. "So
we waited until we found the best tightening treatment for our practice, which
was the Skin Tightening Treatments (Skin Tyte, ST) by Sciton. Not only are the
treatments effective and comfortable, but the reasonable price of each tightening
session makes Skin Tightening Treatments a financially-viable option for more
of our patients."
"Our mission is to spread the word that there are affordable and effective
options to some plastic surgeries," Dr. Elizabeth Hagberg explained. "If a patient
simply has aging, saggy skin on her neck, there may not be a need for a surgical
procedure. I am satisfied when patients tell me that they have booked a consultation
with both a plastics practice as well as a non-surgical center, such as Skin
Rejuvenation Clinic. Before they make any decision, I want to know our patients
have researched both the surgical and non-invasive options."
