Fretting over frizz? It can be extremely frustrating when you put so much work into taking care of your hair and all it gives you in return is a kinked-up mop top. Luckily, there are various ways you can tame it — and they require even less work. In fact, it might be your everyday efforts that are causing the frizz in the first place.

  1. Get a trim

When was the last time you got a haircut? Split ends only worsen over time, gradually making their way up the strand and causing hair to frizz. To ensure smoothness as well as health, trim your hair every six to eight weeks. While at the salon, ask your stylist if a specific haircut might also help reduce frizzies.

  2. Easy on the cleansing

Avoid washing your hair every day. Instead, shampoo and condition your mane every other day to preserve its natural oils. Also, check out products that contain keratin, which fights frizz and repairs damaged hair.

For a shampoo and conditioner in one, try Tricomin Conditioning Shampoo by ProCyte. For a separate conditioner, try Tricomin Restructuring Conditioner by ProCyte. It fosters healthy growth by restoring your hair’s natural protein and mineral balance.

  3. Blow-dry properly

If you blow-dry, first apply an anti-frizz product, such as Oscar Blandi Olio di Jasmine Hair Serum. Then hold your hair straight with a brush. As you dry, direct the air downward as you smooth out your hair with the brush. For best results, only blow-dry every other day — though preferably even less. For those with curly hair, use a diffuser.

  4. Toss your brush

Using a brush can actually promote frizziness and damage your tresses, particularly when you’ve got naturally wavy or curly hair. Instead, invest in a wide-toothed comb or simply use your fingers. Whichever method you use, always remember to be gentle with your hair.

  5. Deep-condition it

To maintain a tame mane, deep-condition your hair once a week. Dry hair types especially should deep-condition during hot, humid weather, because dehydrated tresses can create frizz.

  6. Protect your hair

Sunscreen isn’t just for the skin; it’s also for your hair. UV rays can easily damage your locks and cause frizz. Instead of suffering a sunburn on your hair and scalp (ouch!), apply a hair product with SPF. Try Quintessence Q-Sunshade Leave In Hair Conditioner and Scalp Protectant SPF 30, which contains vitamin E and green tea extract and provides broad spectrum protection. This way your hair is healthy and you reduce the chances of getting frizzies.
